ORDERING YOUR CUSTOM HAT

Having a custom made hat is a fun an easy process. Let’s work together to create a special hat for your next luncheon, derby or wedding. We can meet via Zoom for a one-hour consultation or in person at my New Orleans studio.

What to expect when ordering your bespoke hat, fascinator or headpiece.

1.) Measuring & finding a style:

• Head measurements will be taken and hat shapes options presented to see what works best for the desired look and your face proportion.

• Provide dress or a fabric swatch to color match hat material.

• Mood board, colorway and hat materials will be discussed.

How do I measure my head?

Measuring for your head size is both an art and a science.

• You can use a tape measure (or a length of string that you will have to hold up to a tape measure) to determine the length.

• Place the string or tape around your head about 1/8" above your ears, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.

• Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. The objective is to measure your head exactly where the hat will sit. If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.

2.) Material & trim options:

• First hat fitting will take place. This fitting is to make sure your hat fits properly.

• Trim options will be discussed at this time. Maria will provide pictures of trim process for approval.

What types of hat materials do you use?

Maria sources only the highest quality millinery materials* from Europe, Australia and the US.

Millinery materials to choose from:

• felt (wool, velour, vintage)

• straw, sinamay, buntal, jinsin

• petersham ribbons

• handmade silk flowers

• vintage veiling

• fabric (silks, crepe and more)

• custom hat blocks

* Materials shipped from overseas may take longer than expected to arrive due to item processing in US customs and supply chain shortages. For this reason is important to allow 6-8 weeks for materials to arrive.

3.) Final fittings and last looks:

• Second and final fitting will take place.

• Trim is finished & sewed on the hat.

• Hat will be shipped or delivered.

How do I book a consultation?

Due to COVID-19, all appointments will be held via Zoom video chat.

• Maria will mail you a hat measuring kit before the Zoom meeting.

• To ensure you have your hat in time for your special event like Mardi Gras, Kentucky Derby, Royal Ascot, Garden luncheons, and weddings please plan ahead and get in touch with Maria as soon as possible.

A 50% deposit is required before any work can begin. We accept all major credit cards, Venmo, and Paypal.
